Finds
Over the years, I have found some nice coins and even some jewelry. Here are
some of the better and older ones that I found. While I like finding jewelry, I
treasure the coins the most. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

1949 Wheat(Reverse)

Nothing special, but it was my first wheatie, I was very excited.
1901-02 Indian Heads(Obverse)
.jpg)
1901-02 Indian Heads(Reverse)
.jpg)
Found in the same hole.
Dateless Indian Head(Obverse)
.jpg)
Dateless Indian Head(Reverse)
.jpg)
The soil around here sure does a number on those pennies and nickels. Yikes.
1890-91-93 Indian Heads(Obverse)
.jpg)
1890-91-93 Indian Heads(Reverse)
.jpg)
I have found well over 100 wheat pennies so far. Nothing like a wheatie.

1943-S War(Obverse)
.jpg)
1943-S War(Reverse)
.jpg)
My first War nickel, found quite a few since.
1915-18 Buffalos
.jpg)
Nickels don't stand up as well in the dirt as silver unfortunately.
Buffalos & Wars(Obverse)
.jpg)
I found all of these in one day in the front yard of an old house.
Buffaloes found in January 2011
.jpg)
Got quite a few Buffaloes lately. I used to never find these.

Dimes
Dateless Barber Dime(Obverse)
.jpg)
Dateless Barber Dime(Reverse)

Found this at my favorite local park. Not much left there, but every once in a while...
1929-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1929-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
Found at an old church with some friends. Best find that day.
1893-S Barber(Obverse)

One of my oldest pieces of silver.

Found on the same day in a private yard.
1916-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1916-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
This one had me going, saw the 1916 first then flipped it over and saw a mintmark...
but it was an S. So close yet so far.
1917-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1917-S Mercury(Reverse)

1918-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1918-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
1920-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1920-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
This 1920-S and the 1918-S above are some of the best condition coins I have found.
They are not key dates but the almost new condition tells me they were probably dropped
not long after they were minted. I love that historical connection.
1928-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1928-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
1935-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1935-S Mercury(Reverse)
.jpg)
This was my first Mercury dime. It took me almost a year to find one and I
was so elated when I finally got one. It was at an old school under a nail which
was masking the signal.
1943-S Mercury(Obverse)
.jpg)
1943-S Mercury(Reverse)

1949-S Roosevelt & Wheat Penny(Obverse)
.jpg)
1949-S Roosevelt & Wheat Penny(Reverse)
.jpg)
The 1949-S Roosevelt Dime is one of the semi-key dates of the series. The
wheat penny illustrates how tough the ground in my area is on the pennies.
1927 Mercury & 1952-S/194?-S Roosevelt(Obverse)
.jpg)
1927 Mercury & 1952-S/194?-S Roosevelt(Reverse)
.jpg)
Found all of these and a 1909 quarter(see below) on one day in a private
yard. One of my best days detecting. The one Rosie was right up against a wheat
penny, hence the punkish green hairdo FDR is sporting.

Quarters
Dateless Seated Liberty Quarter(Obverse)
.jpg)
Dateless Seated Liberty Quarter(Reverse)
.jpg)
One of my more disappointing old finds. I have been looking for a seated liberty
coin for a while, and then to get this all worn out with no date, it was bitter-sweet.
Probably my oldest coin to date, they stopped making them in 1891.
1909 Barber(Obverse)
.jpg)
1909 Barber(Reverse)
.jpg)
Found this with the three dimes above, it was a great day. All told, I found
over 15 old coins that day.
1963-D Washington(Obverse)
.jpg)
1963-D Washington(Reverse)
.jpg)
This was my first and very much anticipated silver quarter. Nothing like
firsts.

Half Dollars
1915 Barber(Obverse)
.jpg)
1915 Barber(Reverse)
.jpg)
Another bitter-sweet find here. Found this in a park, it is a key date 1915
plain, probably worth $60 in this condition, but it was bent. Bummer.
1949-S Franklin(Obverse)
.jpg)
1949-S Franklin(Reverse)
.jpg)
This was a shocker. I was hunting a "hunted out" school up in Portland with
about 5 other people. Right smack dab in the middle of the school field, I get
one of those too-good-to-be-true signals. Did everything I could to make it sound
like a pop can, which is what I thought it was. When I dug out this beauty, the
rest of my crew was in total disbelief. It was a great day.

1896 Canadian Dime(Obverse)
.jpg)
1896 Canadian Dime(Reverse)
.jpg)
This was a cool find. Got it in an old schoolyard. I could not believe it
when I saw Queen Victoria. It was Find of the Month at my club.
Foreign Coins
.jpg)
I found all of these in a small area on a University campus. The two guys
I was with also found at least this many each. Somebody dropped their collection.
Mid-1800s Scovill Cuff Button
.jpg)
I found this in a park that used to be the homestead of a founding father of
the town that I live in. Who knows, could have belonged to the man himself.
The quarter is for size reference.
14K Soviet Gold Ring
.jpg)
14K Soviet Gold Ring(Hallmark)
.jpg)
I didn't think much of this ring when I found it, it was pretty small. When
I took a closer look at the hallmark, I noticed the hammer, sickle and star. So I
did some research and eventually contacted a Soviet gold expert. He said the combination
of the symbols and the 585 rather than 583 is very rare and to hold onto the ring.
I still have the email, and the ring.

14K Gold Ring

This was my first gold ring. I didn't even know what I had when I found it,
I figured it couldn't be real. Sure enough, 14K.
14K Gold Ring

This ring was a monster, fit my thumb, and I have big fingers too.

to her. She still wears it.
